Piedmont Patient Featured in News Publication

Kathleen Magill, a patient of Dr. Bill Barnes, was featured in the "Living" section of The Telegraph, a newspaper headquartered in Macon, Georgia, with more than 56,000 circulation on Sundays. The Telegraph is the third largest newspaper in the state of Georgia. Kathleen Magill had her left knee replaced in December of 2013 and her right knee replaced in May of 2014, both using an advanced new implant created with a 3-D printer. Fort Valley woman has new knees thanks to 3-D printing process

When she decided to have knee replacement surgeries last year, Kathy Magill was more concerned with shedding her chronic pain than she was with being on the cutting edge of medical technology. As it turns out, she did both. Because of chronic arthritis in her knees, walking just 100 yards to get the mail was a major undertaking for the 67-year-old Fort Valley resident. Never mind the activities she wanted to do, such as feeding her horse or getting holiday decorations out of the attic. “It had gotten to the point where I had trouble walking,” she said. “I couldn’t walk to the end of the driveway. The bone was tearing into the soft tissue. The surgery basically gave me my life back.”
